PREVENTION CORE TRAINING PROGRAM

2018-2019 PREVENTION CORE TRAINING PROGRAM DELIVERY

The Prevention Core Training Program got off to a great start in September with the delivery of two of the eleven courses in the program.

Introduction to Prevention in Child Welfare was delivered on September 18th and was facilitated by Charlotte Ross.  Prevention workers from across Saskatchewan came together for this one-day training that was designed to give the learners an overall orientation to the work of Prevention Workers.  The participants reviewed and discussed the role of prevention practice in support of building strong families.  Topics of discussion included the history of First Nations child welfare in Saskatchewan; truth and reconciliation; the development of the prevention field including policy and standards; child abuse protocol, principles and ethics that inform the practice and prevention program expectations.  29 learners completed this course with a majority of them registered for an additional two days of prevention training.

Special thanks to our Elder Violet Naytowhow who attended all three days of training and provided cultural supports for the learners and the facilitators.
