SFNFCI hosted The Prevention Network Meeting on May 5, 2021

The Saskatchewan First Nations Child & Family Service Agency prevention network has been in existence since May 2015. The network gathers together regularly to share practices, successes, challenges and to provide guidance to approved SFNFCI prevention projects. SFNFCI coordinates the meetings of the network.

The Prevention Network met online on May 5, 2021 using Microsoft Teams. There were 12 participants in attendance representing 7 agencies. This included SFNFCI staff and our Elder – Ernestine Starr.

The round table was interactive and each of the agencies shared about the work going on in their communities. Many of the agencies are hoping to take advantage of the warmer weather and are planning cultural activities in their communities. Curriculum Developer, Scott Stephens, shared curriculum updates and talked about the prevention curriculum working group, the Prevention Policy and Standards were discussed by Director of Programs, Shelley Thomas-Prokop, and Program Consultant David Bird talked about reconnecting with the caregivers group and future planning of training for caregivers. David then shared important dates in the training calendar for May, June, and July.

Please check SFNFCI.ca/Calendar of Events to see what is being offered.

Also going forward, the prevention curriculum group will be meeting on May 12 with Scott to review the prevention curriculum with SFNFCI coordinating the process. The prevention policies and standards will be discussed at a meeting on May 19, 2021, SFNFCI will be leading the policy and standards review with the plan to seek more engagement with the policies and standards.
