Professional Development – Self Care with Christine Fiddler

On January 23rd 2020, SFNFCI held a Self-Care workshop at Smileys Buffet for Prevention Supervisors, Human Resource Workers and Finance Officers. This workshop was facilitated by Christine Fiddler, Free the Spirit Consulting Services INC. The theme of this workshop was “Achieving self-care as helpers in First Nation Communities.”

The group had time to focus on their own self-care priorities, shared stories, had elders Gilbert Kewistep and Cecile Fiddler share their insight and knowledge, and created a self-care plan. All resources utilized are resources they can take back to their communities and use with employees, co-workers and families.

“Self-care is important, but some people think it's selfish or inconsiderate. We know self-care actually makes you more effective. When you avoid things that make you feel physically and mentally well, you deplete your confidence and self-esteem. Self-care is important to maintain a healthy relationship with yourself. It produces positive feelings, which improves confidence and self-esteem.”
