Prevention Network Meeting March 24, 2021
The Saskatchewan First Nations Child & Family Service Agency prevention network has been in existence since May 2015. The network gathers together regularly to share practices, successes, challenges and to provide guidance to approved SFNFCI prevention projects. SFNFCI coordinates the meetings of the network.
The Prevention Network met online on March 24, 2021 using Microsoft Teams. There were 19 participants in attendance representing 11 agencies. This included SFNFCI staff and our Elder – Ernestine Starr. It was great to see that we are all becoming more at ease and comfortable with using online meeting platforms.
The round table provided lots of good info on the work taking place in communities and the innovative ways agencies are meeting needs. We had updates on the Prevention curriculum from Scott Stephens, the Prevention Policy and Standards from Shelley Thomas-Prokop, and David Bird about the Virtual Gathering. Plus we received good feedback on the training needs for the development of a training calendar.
We also reviewed the Terms of Reference, with no changes being made. The prevention curriculum group will be revisiting the prevention curriculum with SFNFCI coordinating the process. The prevention policies and standards will also be reviewed further, SFNFCI will be leading the review with the plan to seek more engagement with the policies and standards. A presentation on a child wellness plan may be included as part of the next meeting.
Next Meeting dates:
Meetings going forward will be on-line until Covid19 protocols change and we are allowed to gather in-person. When SHA guidelines shift then the schedule below will move towards in-person meetings in Saskatoon, with a possibility of having two-day meetings. SFNFCI will share communication on the details for each meeting.
Next meeting: May 5, 2021, 9am-12pm.
