“Stoking the Home Fire: A Family Preservation Gathering”
April 7th & 8th, 2025 – Whitehorse, Yukon
The research team at SFNFCI was honored to be invited to share their knowledge with the Council of Yukon First Nations (CYFN) at their recent family preservation gathering. SFNFCI delivered a presentation titled “Together We Can Do So Much: A Collaborative Model for Capacity Building.”
During the presentation, the team introduced SFNFCI, sharing its history and the reasons behind its creation. As a non-political, not-for-profit organization, SFNFCI focuses on technical support, capacity building, and the promotion of community-driven approaches. The team highlighted both past and current projects, demonstrating their impact on the communities they serve.
A key focus of the presentation was to showcase some of the institutes wise practices and provide insight into grassroots initiatives for capacity building and Indigenous-based research. Attendees expressed appreciation for the opportunity to learn more about SFNFCI’s work. With no similar organization currently in the Yukon, CYFN showed strong interest in exploring how such models could support their own First Nations communities.
It was a meaningful exchange of knowledge and inspiration, and SFNFCI looks forward to continued collaboration and connection with the CYFN and all of Yukon’s First Nations.
