On May 28th, 2026, the Saskatchewan First Nations Family and Community Institute (SFNFCI) hosted the Prevention Network Quarterly Meeting at SFNFCI in Saskatoon. These meetings are held every quarter; the initial intended purpose of this working group was to share practices, experiences that inform solutions, and provide guidance to approved Institute prevention projects.
A combination of former attendees and new attendees representing 13 community areas across geographic regions of the North to the South from Treaty 4, Treaty 6, Treaty 8, and Treaty 10.
The meeting accomplishments include:
- Curriculum review, identifying areas of learning to inform development,
- Reporting, policy, or home visit procedures training to request ISC/ MSS presenters,
- Review of the Terms of Reference and calendar of events,
- Recruited members to be part of a sub committee to review and update the “Saskatchewan First Nations Child Welfare Prevention Program Guidelines & Standards of Practice”.
A highlight of the one-day meeting was the increase of new members in attendance and representation from First Nations across the province engaging in the review of the Terms of Reference. One of the revisions included the new name of the working group “Saskatchewan First Nations Child & Family Service Provider’s Prevention Management Network.” The event wrapped up with closing remarks and prayer by Elder Ernestine Starr.
