Supporting Individuals Who Experience Violent Episodes Training (SH)

Cost: $999/person

This three-day course is developed to assist group home staff with the different types of violence that men, women, children, and youth may have witnessed and experienced. This includes:

• family/domestic violence and abuses
• intimate partner violence and abuses
• child abuse
• sexual abuse
• drug/alcohol/substance abuse

These types of violence are discussed in a relevant and current context that supports the learner to better understand the clients/youth/children they are working with. It will assist the learner to understand the prevalence and impact of the violence that happens in our communities as well as the trauma the client is dealing with. The course will give the participants the tools necessary to develop trusting relationships as a means to better understand clients and their children and move to a place of supporting them

Key Competencies

Key competencies are defined as the knowledge, skills and abilities that are needed to work effectively in your job. This module is designed to equip you with the ability to:

• To demonstrate essential skills and knowledge in understanding effects of violence on individuals.
• To understand the prevalence of those who experience violence.
• Understand the role of trauma informed practice when working with those who have experienced and witnessed violence.
• To understand the long- term effects of trauma on mental health, including addictions.
• To know supportive strategies and how to encourage them when working with those who have witnessed and experienced violence.
• To understand the importance of teaching coping strategies to individuals who have experienced violence.

Note: 100% attendance is required to receive course certification.
