Prevention Network Working Group Quarterly Meeting August 27, 2026
The working group meetings occur quarterly throughout the year to enhance perspectives on capacity building needs that can inform gatherings over time and curriculum development. Courses are culturally appropriate, trauma informed, and emotionally sensitive and were developed in consultation with First Nations Child Prevention Staff and are guided by the Saskatchewan First Nations Child Prevention Program Guidelines and Standards of Practice created jointly by SFNFCI and First Nations Child and Family Service Providers. We actively engage Elder/Knowledge Keepers and honour their sacred teachings.
Our working group is for:
- Directors, supervisors and managers who work in prevention
- Other Indigenous organizations who provide prevention programming on reserve
Meetings include:
- Roundtable to share success and challenges and learn from one another
- Prevention training curriculum updates
- Prevention training opportunities
- Review and update the Prevention Program Guidelines and Standards of Practice (as required)
- Updates from Indigenous Services Canada (ISC), Saskatchewan Ministry of Social Services (MSS), and the Federation of Sovereign Indian Nations (FSIN)
Our gathering includes:
- Sharing of First Nations prevention and well-being strategies
- Resources available to enhance the good work in our communities
- Guest speakers on topics like mental health and addictions, and other topics affecting children, youth, and families
