Prevention Network Working Group Quarterly Meeting September 11, 2026 (Postponed from August 27, 2026 )
Our working group is for:
- Prevention staff from First Nations and First Nations Child and Family Services Agencies.
Location: Smiley’s Buffet and Event Centre 702 Circle Drive East Saskatoon, SK
Time: 8:30am welcome and refreshments, meeting duration 9:00am-4:00pm
The working group meetings occur quarterly throughout the year to enhance perspectives on capacity building needs that can inform gatherings over time and curriculum development. Courses are culturally appropriate, trauma informed, and emotionally sensitive and were developed in consultation with First Nations Child Prevention Staff and are guided by the Saskatchewan First Nations Child Prevention Program Guidelines and Standards of Practice created jointly by SFNFCI and First Nations Child and Family Service Providers. We actively engage Elder/Knowledge Keepers and honour their sacred teachings.
Meetings include:
- Roundtable to share success and challenges and learn from one another
- Prevention training curriculum updates
- Prevention training opportunities
- Review and update the Prevention Program Guidelines and Standards of Practice (as required)
- Presentations/ Updates: Indigenous Services Canada (ISC)
- Presentations/ Updates: Saskatchewan Ministry of Social Services (MSS) as requested
- Presentations/ Updates: Federation of Sovereign Indian Nations (FSIN) as requested
- Sharing of First Nations prevention program and well-being strategies
- Resources available to enhance the good work in our communities
- Guest speakers and workshops on topics like mental health and addictions, and other topics affecting children, youth, and families
