Collaborating with FSIN and Unaffiliated First Nations for a Brighter Future!

This summer the Saskatchewan First Nation Family and Community Institute (SFNFCI) and Federation of Sovereign Indigenous Nations (FSIN) are embarking on a project that focuses on building a stronger future for children, youth and families.

Together, SFNFCI and FSIN are working with eight (8) Nations that are currently being serviced/supported by the Ministry of Social Services. Often referred to as “unaffiliated First Nations”, these communities face unique circumstances that affect the access to child and family services.

To better understand the needs, challenges and aspirations of these Nations, SFNFCI and FSIN plan to:

  • Gather information on the current experience of unaffiliated First Nations in relation to child and family services.
  • Identify gaps and barriers in service delivery, service agreements, and professional development.
  • Develop recommendations to improve outcomes for children, families and First Nations.

The engagement sessions are taking place throughout the summer, with visits planned to each of the eight nations. The first stop was Moosomin First Nation, where representations from SFNFCI and FSIN connected with members of the Nation to discuss their vision for Child and Family Services.

At SFNFCI, we believe that working collaboratively, with RESPECT, HONESTY and LOVE can lead to brighter futures for the next generations, because Together we can do so much!
