Curriculum Development
SFNFCI Curriculum Development staff work to ensure that courses and training are up to date and relevant, and that programming reflects the needs of the First Nations Child and Family Services Agencies. Agency feedback is vital to curriculum development.
Emergency Duty Worker (EDW) On-call Pilot
SFNFCI piloted a new course designed for emergency duty workers who are on call for prevention and protection emergencies. The training provides best practices for answering calls and gathering information regarding the emergency, shift preparation, and handling interactions with RCMP, clients, and other caregivers.
Curriculum Working Groups
The SFNFCI Curriculum Unit conducts curriculum working group meetings to gather insightful suggestions and feedback on courses.
Other Curriculum Activities
- Learning Management System (LMS)/ Microsoft365: Extensive work was conducted on how SFNFCI courses and trainings can be housed, delivered, and experienced in an on-line/virtual setting.
- Research is conducted to identify what courses require a review to ensure participants receive the best learning experience possible.
- Work is conducted to ensure supplementary materials and facilitator guides are engaging and provide the best possible learning experience for course participants, and that facilitators are supported
Our Curriculum Unit ensures our training courses are current, relevant, and responsive to the unique needs of our communities. We also ensure our curriculum is culturally appropriate, trauma-informed, and emotionally sensitive. We gather this information through Curriculum Working Groups that is guided by knowledge keepers and elders, community service representatives and subject matter experts.
- A Curriculum Development Framework which will provide comprehensive guidelines aligned with SFNFCI values is currently being developed. This framework will ensure SFNFCI curriculum remains community-centered and relevant.
- A new Facilitator Manual will provide facilitators with the tools they need to deliver dynamic and participatory learning experiences, reinforcing our commitment to learner-centered instruction.
- In collaboration with Income Assistance, a new Curriculum Working Group for Income Assistance workers is being developed to address evolving community needs effectively.
- The Curriculum Development team, along with SFNFCI Learning Consultants, is actively exploring opportunities to collaborate with MNP to develop eLearning versions of various Group Home courses. This initiative is aimed at assisting individuals who are unable to travel and will provide accessible learning options from home. SFNFCI looks forward to leveraging technology to expand the reach of our training programs and better serve the community.
- With the implementation of M365 and the integration of our Learning Management System, the Unit is committed to exploring blended learning approaches for instructional design and technology utilization.
