History

SFNFCI was a grassroots initiative formed in 2007 as a non-profit organization.

A Timeline of Our History

  • 2002: Saskatchewan Regional Tripartite Table recommended the establishment of a First Nations Centre of Excellence to support First Nations Child and Family Services.
  • 2005: A Business Plan for the development of SFNFCI was submitted to Indian and Northern Affairs Canada and the Saskatchewan Ministry of Social Services (MSS).
  • 2006: The Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations (FSIN) accepted the draft Terms of Reference for SFNFCI and MSS funding was secured.
  • 2007: An interim Board made up of First Nations Child and Family Service Agency Executive Directors was created and SFNFCI was incorporated as a non-profit organization.
  • 2008: SFNFCI opened its doors and the Board conducted strategic planning; core areas for work included research, training, strategic partnerships; staff were hired.
